Esmée in the kitchen looking like the Sphinx.

NAME ORIGIN

I just like the name and it had been in the back of my mind for a while. Lovecraftian names for girls are scarce, so I just went with Esmée rather than desperately scouring through Lovecraft's works.

Other names considered: none.

NICKNAME(S)

None yet.

DATE OF BIRTH
Around April 1, 2013.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Black, but not quite as black as her brother H.P. Her fur isn't as thick as his and she has faint tabby stripes on her legs and tail and spots on her tummy.

Her eyes are still changing color, but look like they'll eventually be a yellowish-green.

MEOW

Her very loud meow is what saved her and her brother's lives. Since that day, however, she's grown quieter. She does squeak quite a bit at feeding time, but is nowhere near as talkative as H.P. is.

PURR / BISCUITS

She has a very loud purr, which she employs frequently. So far, she's not into making biscuits.

HISTORY

On April 30, 2013, Chris was walking our six dogs in the evening well after sunset. He went down a road they don't usually use and heard a very loud kitten voice crying frantically. We're in a rural area and there are no streetlights so it was pitch black, but somehow he managed to find and grab two small, black kittens, all the while controlling the dogs.

As soon as he got home, he handed the babies to me and went back out with a flashlight to see if there were any more, but turned up no one else.

The little ones were clearly feral and given their location, may have as their source the feral colony that gave us Arivaca, Penelope, Aisling, Dubh, and Molly Maguire. Whether they wandered away from their mama or she went on a hunting trip and didn't return, we'll never know.

PERSONALITY

Esmée is the more feisty and adventurous of the two siblings and is usually the first to try new things. She has so far set two household records: she made it up the stairs at six weeks old, and figured out how to get onto the roof during Supervised Outdoor Playtime at 12 weeks old (three days after we started letting them out).

She's not as frantically affectionate as her brother, but she certainly does her share of demanding attention and petting.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

None so far.

HOBBIES / INTERESTS

Running everywhere; wrestling with her brother on the cat hammock; hanging out on the back porch; climbing on top of the finch's cage (which she's not supposed to do).

FRIENDS

Her brother is her best friend at this point, but she also plays with Persephone.

SCARED OF THE VACUUM CLEANER?

 Wary, but not terrified.
